Free vaccination by Punjab and Himachal Pradesh for the 18-44 age group. From May 1, free vaccination will be available in government hospitals.
Since the previous supply of vaccine was expected to be small, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh formed an expert group. The group includes virologist Dr. Gagandeep Kang, CMCVellore community health professor Dr. Jacob John, and former PGI School of Public Health head Dr. Rajesh Kumar to recommend optimization in the new category.
Team working for free vaccination drive
The team has one week to prepare its campaign for free covid vaccination. Dr. Kang, a special invitee, sees geographic saturation in potentially high covid cases in cities like Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Mohali, as well as Patiala. They moreover suggest evaluating patients based on medical need (serious complications first) and occupation like teachers.
The Himachal Pradesh cabinet agreed to establish block-level mobile teams for better treatment of home-isolated patients. Moreover, they should move them to the hospital if the case becomes serious, due to a sharp rise in positive cases and deaths. A nutrition kit will also be there for each of these patients after getting free vaccination.
Each medical college in the state will have a senior doctor in charge of supervising the care. The contracted employees on pandemic duty will get Rs 200 for each move. Free Vaccination is mandatory for all government officials. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and his cabinet colleagues decided to donate a month’s pay to the CM Covid Fund, also with cheques conveyed to chief secretary Anil Khachi.
On Thursday, the Centre sent Punjab 4 lakh more doses of Covishield free covid vaccination. It is enough to last another four days. The CM instructed the health department to obtain sufficient supplies from the Centre as well as to keep Covaxin on hand.
Other cabinet decisions include the Himachal Pradesh government ready to fill 19 technical and ministerial staff positions at the Seri entrepreneurship development center in Balichowki, Mandi district. And two block development officer positions, as well as the establishment of an industrial training institute (ITI). It is available with 26 positions at Baroti in the Mandi district’s Dharampur tehsil.
Hence, the Himachal Pradesh is providing free covid vaccination under speedy and effective protective measures.
