UT Administration targets 100MW solar power by 2022

The UT administration set a self-target of 100MW solar power generation by 2022 even as the new and renewable energy. Ministry increased the city’s target for solar power generation from 50 megawatts (MW) to 69 MW for that year.

However, the town already generates 35MW of solar power.

Solar energy is just the light and heat which comes from the sun. Solar Plants harness the energy of the sun in a variety of different ways such as Photovoltaic cells. These cells turn sunlight into electricity. Solar thermal technology, in which solar heat is also used to produce hot water or steam.

Besides the Key ventures include the installation of solar power plants on private houses under the Renewable Energy Service Company Model (RESCO) model; solar power plant worth Rs 4.5 crore at the new lake parking area in Sector 42.

The solar panels in cycle stands of various government schools and also a solar power plant on N-choe, a seasonal rivulet that passes through Garden of Springs, Sector 53.

The Solar Energy Project

UT administrator VP Singh Badnore has made approval for the RESCO project to encourage solar energy. Moreover, private companies would build solar energy plants on private residences.

CEO of Chandigarh Renewable Energy, Science and Technology Promotion Society (Crest), said that they’ve planned a series of tasks. Chandigarh is doing magnificent research in the field of solar energy, which has recently been appreciated at the national scale.

The government has made the issuance of Rs 5 crore to the administration to enable people to install solar projects. These are in use to pass solar subsidies to residents who have installed solar power plants on their rooftops.

Also, the UT had agreed to use this amount to transfer sums of subsidies into the qualifying beneficiaries’ account.

The government informs about the solar units of the new subsidy policy, whereby the amount raised from 30 percent to 40 percent for panels up to 3 kW. The subsidy would be 20 percent for solar units from 4 kW to 10 kW. Plants over 10kW do not earn a subsidy.
