Gyms reopen in Tricity but customers opted to stay at home

Having anxiously waited for this day, gym owners ultimately reopened their units on Wednesday, albeit to a slow start, after more than four months.

Many precautions were in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus, but the customers’ reaction wasn’t overwhelming on the first day and most opted to stay away.

Abhishek Gagneja, founder of Ultimate Fitness Gyms, which also has outlets in Chandigarh, Mohali and Zirakpur, said, “We are happy that gyms get permission to restart but client feedback was not positive. It’s going to take some months to get back in shape.

Just 25 per cent of the initial client base attended the workout facility on Wednesday, Gagneja said.

The government’s recommendations for the reopening of gyms made facial cover or mask compulsory at all times on the grounds. Also, they are advised of the use of the Aarogya Setu app as a Covid-19 tracker device. Some guidelines involve keeping the computers apart by six centimeters.

“In the morning only 10 customers showed up. Individuals are not willing to join. Booking reaction isn’t helpful quite so and it will take time to reach the pace,” said Manu Sharma, Bodyscapes Fitness Temple supervisor, Sector 34A.

Not all gyms are planning to reopen

“80 percent of gymnasiums resumed on Wednesday and some of them will open in a few days,” said Sanjeev Kumar, President of the Tricity Gym Owners’ Association. It is clear that the reaction will at first remain small, but we expect gyms to start-up in the next few weeks.

As the cases increase, people are more willing to have the session in open spaces than in centres to yoga. As told by Panchkula’s Sector 12 Yoga Teacher, Vinod Bajaj.

Working on a warfare basis to enforce COVID 19 protection initiatives in gyms which will resume on August 5. After the four-month closure began with the applications for book training and sanitation of facilities after using it.

At every practice, they conduct temperature controls at the entrance and sanitation of facilities.

Clients to give an undertaking

Ohio Gym and Spa Creator with branches in Mohali, says they’re going to take on a client undertaking. The undertaking says that they didn’t show any Covid-19 indications in the last month. “Customers will book appointments with a smartphone app and sanitize the equipment after each session. There will also be no physical fitness appointments with trainers, so they will have online training for their customers.”

Some daily gymnastics, however, aren’t too eager to attend. Navneet Sharma of Phase 3B2 says, “I’d rather exercise at home as one might catch illness at the gym.”

The president of the Association, says he was awaiting for operating protocols to see how many individuals should be permitted. “A reasonable number of visitors per session by the government so that gyms can support themselves,” he adds.
