Night curfew brings trouble to night weddings

Amid the rise in COVID-19 cases, Chandigarh administration imposed night curfew from 10:30 pm to 5 am. While in Punjab, the curfew starts from 9 pm to 5 am. As per the Hindu weddings, the rituals begins around 9 in the night and pheras takes place around 4 or 5 in the morning.

This imposition of night curfew in Chandigarh and Punjab proves to be a trouble for the wedding booked for April month as of now. Thus showing a shift in the venue selection from Chandigarh and Punjab to Punchkula as there is yet no night curfew.

The uncertain issue of this order is giving a hard time to the hoteliers. Each of them are getting phone calls to inquire about a solution. To give some relief, the hoteliers are suggesting day wedding because of the night curfew.

Hoteliers have a solution to night curfew

The Metro Hotel and The Lalit were swamped with the wedding bookings but ever since the news of curfew came forward, they are making changes accordingly to entertain their guests.

The chairman of Federation of Sectors Welfare Associations of Chandigarh, Baljinder Singh Bittu, commented, “This should not have been done all of a sudden. Moreover, night curfew is of no use. Gatherings will take place, be it day or night. How can they stop it? And another thing is that people will go to Panchkula.”

Similarly, M P S Chawla, owner of Hotel Altius, stated, “What if the one who is holding a wedding holds it in Panchkula because there are no curbs there and then comes back to Chandigarh with COVID? If a decision has to be taken, it should be taken in consultation with all three — Panchkula, Chandigarh and Mohali.”

In a recent update from Tricity, a resident shared that due to COVID-19, he had to postpone his daughters’ wedding last year in April. The same thing is happening again to them this year as they made arrangements for April 10th.

The sudden order did create a frenzy in the Tricity, causing emotional as well as financial to loss.
