A senior official said the task had been delayed because of the pandemic, and the project would be continued shortly.

Government schools such as GMSSS, 20-B; GMHS, Karsan; Government School, Raipur Kalan (new building); GMHS, Pocket No 10, Mani Majra; GMHS, Sector 29; GMSS, Sector 40-B; GMHS, Sector 12, and GMSS, Dhanas are the schools where kitchens were under suggestion.

The Human Resource Development Ministry has issued Rs 23.34 lakh aid for the installation of 10 kitchen-cum-stores in Chandigarh.

Installation of 7 kitchens has been completed last year, and work has been underway for three kitchen-cum-stores.

Besides, five kitchens have approval by the Chandigarh Administration for Rs4.72 lakh out of their own capital. Construction project is also underway for such five cluster kitchens.

The UT Administration has assured the Center to work with the best of all eight kitchens by September during the Program Approval Board (PAB) consultation held on June 16. The fresh kitchens will be in clusters, and will also serve meals for their own students and few other government schools in the neighborhood.

Currently, there are seven kitchens, along with three kitchens centralization, which provide midday meals for government school students.
