Weekend curfew in Chandigarh due to rise in covid cases

There has been an imposition of weekend curfew in Chandigarh due to rise in covid cases in the city.

The UT Administration has extended the weekend corona curfew in the city to prevent non-essential movement of people and vehicles.

The administration has also agreed to broaden the vaccination campaign to include people aged 18 to 44. Starting on Saturday, there will be 4,000 appointment slots open every day. This is being done to vaccinate people in this age group more quickly to protect them from Covid infection.

Weekend curfew in Chandigarh

The weekend curfew will be enforced from 5 a.m. on Saturday until 5 a.m. on Monday, according to an order issued by District Magistrate Mandip Singh Brar. During the curfew, no one would be able to leave the house or drive.

In response to a request for some curfew relief after the city announced a decrease in the number of positive Covid cases, an official said that although the number of cases had decreased in recent days, relaxing the curfew now would jeopardize the gains made so far as a result of the lockdown.

Permissions and Restrictions

During the corona curfew time, no one has permission to venture outside without a suitable or urgent reason, according to an order issued by the District Magistrate of Chandigarh. Both stores and other businesses are to remain shut. However, shops selling necessities such as milk, groceries, and other necessities will remain open until 2 p.m., but only for home delivery.

The order stated that there would be no restrictions on the movement of essential and non-essential goods between states. There has been the exclusion of passengers traveling to or from the airport, train station, or ISBT.

Meanwhile, morning walks have permission from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., but participants must adhere to Covid-approved conduct.

Shops that supply essential goods such as milk, bread, vegetables, fruits, dairy products, eggs, meat, groceries, bakeries, and other items have permission to stay open until 2 p.m. for home delivery. During the weekend curfew time, only necessary travel will be permitted.

The manufacturing industry has permission to continue operating, and interstate transportation of necessary and non-essential products has no restrictions. Restaurants, dining establishments, and hotels can only keep their kitchens open for home delivery until 9 p.m.

Passengers travelling to or from the airport, train station, or ISBT will be excluded from the charge. Movement of those going to an examination and those on examination duty would be permitted during the weekend curfew.
