The students are concerned about when and how the exams will be conducted by the Panjab University. Several students in Chandigarh are from states such as Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir.
Panjab University soon will be providing notification regarding final dates and decisions for the examination of final year students.
Many students stated that they are uncertain about the examination and are stressing about their stay in the city. The outstation students and parents are stressing due to the alarming COVID-19 situation in Chandigarh.
The Distress among the Students
Parents of the respective students are hesitating to send them for their examination in the city. The students reported that the syllabus is not complete and they are not ready for the exams yet.
Consequently, calls from final year students of postgraduate, undergraduate and class XII has been received by the Panjab University Helpline. The lockdown has axed the career plans and opportunities for many students which causes distress.
Professor Seema Vinayak, the department chairperson, heading the helpline unit, stated that the distress and anxiety calls about the professional future had a lion’s share.
The students are panicking as their plans to go abroad, appear in competitive exams, and placements have been majorly compromised with. Due to that, they are feeling anxious and low.
On the other hand, Panjab University authorities have stated that they are reaching out to their students for a quick fix.
It is a major concern for the bright students who are distressing about their careers. The Panjab University assures that they are considering all the issues of the students seeking answers.
The department of psychology of Panjab University has been receiving calls from parents of the students. Parents are seeking guidance on how to handle their children in such distress.
Department acknowledges the need of the hour and is providing the appropriate guidance to the parents. As such distress and anxiety can later turn into depression.
The safety and preventive measures will be strictly followed by the University authorities while conducting the exams. Such guidelines and norms are under consideration by the administration to conduct the exams.
The students will be notified about the guidelines and date sheet of their examinations.
